Tru by Hilton Austin Airport

It was a good airport hotel for me and my Mom for our layover in Austin airport. It’s near the hotel but disappointed that their shuttle service is not 24/7. It was quiet! The room was clean and beddings comfortable. Their hot breakfast was basic compared to other Hilton properties with free breakfast. But delighted with the welcome bag with bottled water and chips for being a Hilton honors member. Staff were nice and friendly!

I stayed here for one night with my daughter. As two women traveling alone, I honestly felt safer than I expected given some of the reviews. That being said, I encountered no vagrants or otherwise at the doors. The parking lot was clean and well lit and there was lots of parking directly in front of the lobby. Everything in this place is small scale. They have packed a lot into the small spaces and I am pretty sure it’s intentional to feel a little more like a modern place. The lobby was busy upon arriving around 9:30pm with folks playing pool, games, having fun. Seems like it’d be a good time if you like to be around people. I felt the front desk manager to be mid-friendly, if that’s a word. She wasn’t unfriendly, but she also wasn’t super friendly, either. She did her job sufficiently. The room was clean. I didn’t feel like it wasn’t kept up with; however, it wasn’t as clean as I’d have liked (a hair in the shower was the only thing that really got me, but I see that, for some reason, fairly often - I wish hotels would double check that). It’s small. Like - my daughter and I could barely pass each other in the walkways kind of small and we are fairly small people (I’m 5’3” and 150lbs and she’s 5’5” and MAYBE 120lbs). There are lots of hooks in the room, which is nice, and a lot of surfaces to put suitcases, etc. The fridge is tiny and doesn’t stay cold and no freezer, so I couldn’t re-freeze my ice packs as I’d hoped, but there was ice available so I did that instead. It’s quite loud. I wear earplugs normally, but not typically when we are traveling alone for safety reasons and I had to put them in or I wouldn’t have gotten any sleep. There isn’t much in terms of sound deadening and you can hear all the footsteps and shower/water/toilet flushes around you. Not to mention anyone walking down the hall being rude and laughing/talking in front of guest rooms. Breakfast was good. Overall, I would stay here for a quick night, but not really my cup of tea.
